For those who are not familiar with the usual wider tyre options here is an example of the increase in width, with retention of approximately the same rolling circumference (necessary on 4 wheel drive tractors). A 16.9R24
tyre has a section width of approximately
16.9
inches or 430
mm , the replacement
480/70R24
has a section width of approximately 480
mm,
wider still a 540/65r28 has
a section width of approximately 540

"Low profile" wider tyres as shown in this table can replace the standard tractor tyre sizes that are listed next to them. Usually the same rim can be used for either. The benefit of wider tyres is the ability to operate at lower inflation pressures, causing less soil compaction, leading to better soil structure and resulting in increased yields. |
